What to expect on this 1 day trip to Chefchaouen from Fez
Our driver / guide will pick you up from your hotel in Fez at 08:00 and travel north in an air-conditioned vehicle for three hours to reach the town of Chefchaouen. Along the way, you will be mesmerized by the view of the Rif Mountains and the rolling hills of Ouezzane. Stop to enjoy the scenery and fresh air, and take amazing photos. After discovering all that the city of Chefchouen has to offer, we return to Fez.
Itinerary
Our day tour will depart at 08.00am. m. from your accommodation in Fes. We will head north in an air-conditioned vehicle for three hours to reach the small town of Chefchaouen. Along the way, you will be mesmerized by the view of the Rif Mountains and the rolling hills of Ouezzane. Stop to enjoy the scenery, fresh air, and take amazing photos. Located inland from Tangier and Tetouan, Chaouen, as locals call it, was founded as a fortress in the 15th century. Chefchaouen is known for its dreamy blue houses, handmade woolen products and delicious premium quality goat cheese. Its name refers to the shape of the mountain peaks above the city, which resemble the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. Water is abundant in this hilltop city creating a network of mineral-rich caves that surround the mountains.
Stop at the top of the mountain to enjoy a panoramic view of Chefchaouen. You will arrive at 12:00 p.m. m. and you'll have four hours free to explore the city's winding streets. Visit the medina to learn more about Arab-Andalusian traditions and products. Visit the main square Plaza Uta El-Hammam, where the incredible 15th century Grand Mosque and kasbah are located.
This mosque, with its unusual octagonal tower, was built by Jewish refugees who fled with the Muslims from Spanish persecution by fleeing to Chefchaouen. Learn about the history and culture of this area at the Kasbah Museum or the Ethnographic Museum which contains musical instruments, ancient weapons and photographs of the old city.
