5 Days Marrakech to Sahara & Essaouira
For centuries, nomads and traders have traveled by camel across the Sahara Desert in Morocco and beyond. Follow in their footsteps as our expert tour guides take you across the desert in an air-conditioned vehicle and camel ride, ending up at an overnight desert camp.

There are several tourist routes to choose from, ending in Fez or Marrakech. Your local tour guide will be fluent in English and will look after you every step of the way.

The camp is fully equipped with western style toilets for your convenience.

Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Agdez - Zagora

Greetings at your riad or hotel where you will be picked up. You will begin your journey south to the Draa Valley via the Tizi n'Tichka pass. You will visit the Berber village of Ait Ben Haddou, founded in the 11th century, its location on the main road from Marrakech to the Sahara, meant it was an ideal stop for traders transporting salt across the desert and returning with goods such as gold and ivory . After lunch, we continue through the Anti Atlas Mountains, through the Berber villages of Agdz and the incredible Draa Valley. We will have dinner and overnight in a riad / hotel in Zagora.

Day 2: Zagora - Tamagroute - Erg Chegaga

After breakfast we will continue to M'hamid. We will visit the original town of the 16th century Tamgroute dynasty and the ancient library of the Koran and see the pottery. We arrive at the Saharan village of M'hamid before taking the off-road vehicle to Erg Chegaga. We will ride camels in the camp to watch the sunset and spend the night in a desert camp, enjoy a Moroccan dinner, listen to Berber music, you can join us playing drums or dancing. We will spend the night in a private tent.

Day 3: Erg Chegaga - Taliouine - Taroudant

After breakfast we drive through the Sahara through the stony desert and dry Iriqui Lake. In the middle of this lake we can look for fossils. At the edge of the desert in Foum Zguid, we drive north to Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpets, where we stop for lunch. After arriving in Taliouine, a city famous for Safran, visit a Safran cooperative. If your visit coincides with the Safran harvest, you will have the opportunity to meet the Berber people with their families who harvest the Safran in their fields. You will arrive in Taroudant in the early afternoon. Accommodation in your Riad / hotel.

Day 4: Taroudant - Agadir - Essaouira

After breakfast we will go to Agadir, a tourist town which has been an excellent tourist destination for many years. After lunch and relaxation, take the coastal road to Essaouira, which offers wonderful landscapes, you will have the opportunity to see the goats climbing the Argan tree, Later, Essaouira welcomes you. Accommodation in your Riad / Hotel.

Day 5: Explore Essaouira - Marrakech

After breakfast in your accommodation, visit the fishing port with its ramparts and Skala. Stroll through the Zouk (market) and experience the different crafts made in the city. Enjoy fresh fish at a local restaurant near the harbor. Afternoon return to Marrakech. Return to your accommodation in Marrakech.
